THE MV JOE JOE TEAM
Captain Barry Cross
Not only are you in very safe hands, but your Skipper will keep you
entertained for hours, not being one to miss a spontaneous opportunity
to spin a fishing yarn or anecdote on the high seas.
Barry has far reaching local knowledge of Australian waters. His local
knowledge extends from Cairns through to the Cape York Peninsula, Arnhem
Land, Kimberley and Broome, and has also spent much time cruising the
waters of Papua New Guinea.
Barry has cruised, fished and snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef since
1978 and is one of Australia's most experienced and professional sports-fishing
guides The first angler to catch a Black Marlin on 2kg Tippet Fly, Barry
has featured in numerous Australian and international fishing publications.
He has facilitated world firsts in fly-fishing for his clients with
catches of Black Marlin, Narrow-Barred Spanish Mackeral and Giant Trevally,
and in fact pioneered Giant Trevally fishing.
Nowadays however, his greatest passion is teaching, entertaining guests
and sharing their experiences from the comfort of MV Joe Joe.
Scuba Instructor/Divemaster
For clients wishing to experience SCUBA diving in one of the world's
best locations and experience the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef
and beyond... Joe Joe can organize a fully qualified Dive Master/Instructor
as required.
For the more advanced divers, we can design an itinerary to suit your interest and level of experience.
Dive sites can include such locations as the famed Cod Hole, Osprey
Reef, plus some of those where only the professional local divers spend
their leisure time.
Chef
As we travel throughout the wondrous Great Barrier waters
and islands, our onboard Chef will tempt and satisfy the most discerning
of tastes using only the finest local ingredients- local seafood, tender
cuts of North Australian beef, and fresh fruit and vegetables that only
days before were soaking up the sun themselves on the Atherton Tablelands
above Cairns.
We invite your comments and preferences regarding your favorite dishes
and drinks so that we can arrange a culinary experience as amazing and
satisfying as the journey itself.
DAY CHARTERS
MV Joe Joe is surveyed to comfortably carry up to 12 passengers in coastal
waters on day charters.
The 19.81 metre fibreglass high speed-planning hull is capable of a top
speed of 34 knots, and cruising comfortably at 25 knots, with an effective
range of 400 nautical miles, and its 5.35 metre beam and anti-roll stabillizer
fins provides comfort, safety and stability in all but the very worst
of coastal water conditions.
Luxury Day Charters & Cruising
Take a stroll along a sun drenched beach, hust a coconut fallen from its
tree. Explore those remote nooks and crannies both above and below the
waterline.
Joe Joe's tender is ideal for taking you to remote and usually inaccessible
waterways.
Cruise along a river estuary or transfer to the beach on a remote island.
Locations reached from a day charter from Port Douglas may include the
following:
Wreck Bay Located 20nm north of Cape Kimberley (1 hour north of
Port Douglas), Wreck Bay is only accessible by water. Here the rainforest
meets the Reef. Witness amazing bird and animal life, snorkel off the
beach, surrounded by an abundance of juvenile fish and crustations. Watch
Siberian Sandpipers that migrate half way around the world for 6 months
of the year.
Snapper Island 12nm north of Port Douglas (30mins cruise time),
Snapper Island is a marine park so unfortunately no shell collecting.
The Island has plenty of beaches offering protection from the prevailing
winds. Being a continental island, it has its own unique wildlife and
flora - including orchids only found in the far north of Australia.
Cape Tribulation An ideal sheltered anchorage allowing access to
retaurants and resorts nestled in the rainforest, beyond this world famous
tropical beach.
Mackay Cay and Undine Cay Both can be reached within one hour from
Port Douglas and offer plenty of seabirds, turtles, Coral Gardens and
excellent snorkelling off the beach - a fantastic environment for kids.
A suggested Itinerary
Depart the marina around 08.00hrs. Coffee and pastries served on the trip
out - which can be as little as 45 minutes.
Some light tackle trolling in the morning - targeting species such as
Spanish Mackerel, Tuna, Sailfish and Marlin. Drop anchor for a swim, snorkel
or dive, before our chef serves one of his special lunches - service with
a quality Australian wine.
In the afternoon perhaps some more fishing, a visit to a deserted sand
cay or a reef lagoon for some sonorkelling, or just relax on deck and
watch the world go by.
Arrive back at Marina Mirage at 4.30pm with plenty of time to find somewhere
along the waterfront to have a cocktail and watch the sun go down on another
day in paradise.
